Cardiologist Dr. Jack Wolfson explains why a healthy thyroid is essential to good cardiovascular health.

Hey, it’s Dr. Jack Wolfson, cardiologist, and I want to talk to you today about the thyroid and the heart. How important it is for the thyroid to be regulated for healthy heart function.
So, the first reason I’ll tell you is because of cholesterol and lipids, LDL’s, HDL’s, and triglycerides. All that is predicated on a good functioning thyroid. So, make sure your thyroid is healthy for your cholesterol and lipid levels.
Number two, heart rhythm problems. When you have atrial fibrillation, palpitations, racing heart feelings, skip beats, flip-flops. It can all be thyroid related so make sure that the thyroid is checked.
Number three, inflammation. The thyroid and dysfunctional thyroid is linked to inflammation and inflammation is very unhealthy. Increased risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, you name it. So, make sure the thyroid is regulated for the inflammation.
Number four, diabetes. Underactive thyroid is linked to diabetes and elevated blood sugar, which of course increases your risk of everything. So, we want to make sure we want to get healthy thyroid levels when it comes to blood sugar.
Number five, congestive heart failure. When you have a very underactive thyroid it can lead to heart muscle dysfunction or congestive heart failure. Get the thyroid fixed.
The other thing of course is that weight is associated with abnormal thyroid and elevated weight is linked to all things bad, including cardiovascular risk.
And then finally, high blood pressure is linked to an underactive thyroid or an overactive thyroid.
So, get your thyroid checked today.
