05 July - 2 Kings 12-13 And 2 Chronicles 24
My soul doth magnify my YAH, and my spirit hath rejoiced in EL my Saviour; For HE that is mighty hath done to me great things; and Holy is HIS Name. Now unto HIM who is ever present in my helpless estate; who is able to keep me from falling and to present me faultless before the presence of His Glory with exceeding joy, unto the King Eternal, Immortal, Invisible, the only wise EL our Saviour be honour and glory and majesty, dominion and power both now and for ever Halleluyah!
2 KINGS 12
1Yeho’ash began to reign in the seventh year of Yĕhu, and he reigned forty years in Yerushalayim. And his mother’s name was Tsiḇyah of Be’ĕrsheḇa.
2And Yeho’ash did what was right in the eyes of יהוה all the days in which Yehoyaḏa the priest instructed him.
3However, the high places were not taken away; the people still slaughter and burned incense on the high places.
4And Yeho’ash said to the priests, “All the silver of the set-apart gifts that are brought into the House of יהוה, the silver coming over, each man’s assessment silver, all the silver that a man purposes in his heart to bring into the House of יהוה,
5let the priests take for themselves, each from his friend. And let them repair the damages of the House, wherever there is damage.”
6And it came to be, by the twenty-third year of Sovereign Yeho’ash, that the priests had not repaired the damages of the House,
7and Sovereign Yeho’ash called Yehoyaḏa the priest and the other priests, and said to them, “Why have you not repaired the damages of the House? And now, do not take any more silver from your friends, but give it for repairing the damages of the House.”
8And the priests agreed that they would neither receive any more silver from the people, nor repair the damages of the House.
9And Yehoyaḏa the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the House of יהוה. And the priests who guarded the door put there all the silver that was brought into the House of יהוה.
10And it came to be, whenever they saw that there was much silver in the chest, that the sovereign’s scribe and the high priest came up and put it in bags, and counted the silver that was found in the House of יהוה,
11and gave the silver, weighed out, into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the House of יהוה. And they paid it out to the carpenters and builders who worked on the House of יהוה,
12and to stonemasons and stonecutters, and for buying timber and hewn stone to repair the damage of the House of יהוה, and for all that was paid out to repair the House.
13However there were not made for the House of יהוה basins of silver, snuffers, sprinkling-bowls, trumpets, any objects of gold, or objects of silver, from the silver that was brought into the House of יהוה,
14for they gave that to the workmen, and they repaired the House of יהוה with it.
15And they did not reckon with the men into whose hand they gave the silver to be paid to workmen, for they acted trustworthily.
16The silver from the trespass offerings and the silver from the sin offerings was not brought into the House of יהוה. It belonged to the priests.
17And Ḥaza’ĕl sovereign of Aram went up and fought against Gath, and captured it. And Ḥaza’ĕl set his face to go up to Yerushalayim.
18And Yeho’ash sovereign of Yehuḏah took all the set-apart gifts that his fathers, Yehoshaphat and Yehoram and Aḥazyahu, sovereigns of Yehuḏah, had set apart, and his own set-apart gifts, and all the gold found in the treasuries of the House of יהוה and in the sovereign’s house, and sent them to Ḥaza’ĕl sovereign of Aram. Then he went away from Yerushalayim.
19And the rest of the acts of Yo’ash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the sovereigns of Yehuḏah?
20And his servants rose up and made a conspiracy, and smote Yo’ash in the house of Millo, which goes down to Silla.
21For Yozaḵar son of Shim‛ath and Yehozaḇaḏ son of Shomĕr, his servants, smote him. So he died, and they buried him with his fathers in the City of Dawiḏ. And Amatsyah his son reigned in his place.
2 KINGS 13
1In the twenty-third year of Yo’ash son of Aḥazyahu, sovereign of Yehuḏah, Yeho’aḥaz son of Yĕhu began to reign over Yisra’ĕl in Shomeron, and reigned seventeen years.
2And he did evil in the eyes of יהוה, and followed the sins of Yaroḇ‛am son of Neḇat, who had made Yisra’ĕl sin. He did not turn away from them.
3And the displeasure of יהוה burned against Yisra’ĕl, and He gave them into the hand of Ḥaza’ĕl sovereign of Aram, and into the hand of Ben-Haḏaḏ son of Ḥaza’ĕl, all the days.
4Then Yeho’aḥaz sought the face of יהוה. And יהוה listened to him, for He saw the oppression of Yisra’ĕl, because the sovereign of Aram oppressed them.
5And יהוה gave Yisra’ĕl a saviour, so that they came out from under the hand of Aram. And the children of Yisra’ĕl dwelt in their tents as before.
6However, they did not turn away from the sins of the house of Yaroḇ‛am, who had made Yisra’ĕl sin, but walked in them. Moreover, the Ashĕrah also remained in Shomeron.
7For He left of the army of Yeho’aḥaz only fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen, for the sovereign of Aram had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing.
8And the rest of the acts of Yeho’aḥaz, and all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the annals of the sovereigns of Yisra’ĕl?
9So Yeho’aḥaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in Shomeron. And Yo’ash his son reigned in his place.
10In the thirty-seventh year of Yo’ash sovereign of Yehuḏah, Yeho’ash son of Yeho’aḥaz began to reign over Yisra’ĕl in Shomeron, sixteen years.
11And he did evil in the eyes of יהוה. He did not turn away from all the sins of Yaroḇ‛am son of Neḇat, who had made Yisra’ĕl sin – he walked in it.
12And the rest of the acts of Yo’ash, and all that he did, and his might with which he fought against Amatsyah sovereign of Yehuḏah, are they not written in the book of the annals of the sovereigns of Yisra’ĕl?
13So Yo’ash slept with his fathers. And Yaroḇ‛am sat on his throne. And Yo’ash was buried in Shomeron with the sovereigns of Yisra’ĕl.
14And Elisha had become sick with the sickness in which he died. And Yo’ash the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl came down to him, and wept over his face, and said, “O my father, my father, the chariots of Yisra’ĕl and their horsemen!”
15And Elisha said to him, “Take a bow and some arrows.” And he took a bow and some arrows.
16And he said to the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl, “Place your hand on the bow.” So he placed his hand, and Elisha placed his hands on the hands of the sovereign,
17and said, “Open the east window.” And he had opened it and Elisha said, “Shoot.” And he shot. Then he said, “The arrow of deliverance of יהוה and the arrow of deliverance from Aram, for you shall smite Aram at Aphĕq until it is finished.”
18Then he said, “Take the arrows,” and he took them. And he said to the sovereign of Yisra’ĕl, “Strike the ground,” and he struck three times, and stopped.
19And the man of Elohim was wroth with him and said, “You should have smitten five or six times, then you would have smitten Aram till its utter destruction. But now you shall smite Aram only three times.”
20And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the raiding bands from Mo’aḇ came into the land in the spring of the year.
21And it came to be, they were burying a man, and there they saw a raiding band, and cast the man in the tomb of Elisha. And the man fell and touched the bones of Elisha, and came to life and stood on his feet.
22And Ḥaza’ĕl sovereign of Aram oppressed Yisra’ĕl all the days of Yeho’aḥaz.
23But יהוה showed favour to them, and had compassion on them, and turned toward them, for the sake of His covenant with Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq, and Ya‛aqoḇ, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presence as yet.
24And Ḥaza’ĕl sovereign of Aram died. And Ben-Haḏaḏ his son reigned in his place.
25And Yeho’ash son of Yeho’aḥaz recovered from the hand of Ben-Haḏaḏ, son of Ḥaza’ĕl, the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Yeho’aḥaz his father in battle. Yo’ash smote him three times, and he recovered the cities of Yisra’ĕl.
2 CHRONICLES 24
1Yo’ash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Yerushalayim. And the name of his mother was Tsiḇyah of Be’ĕrsheḇa.
2And Yo’ash did what was right in the eyes of יהוה all the days of Yehoyaḏa the priest.
3And Yehoyaḏa took for him two wives, and he brought forth sons and daughters.
4And after this it came to be that Yo’ash set his heart on restoring the House of יהוה.
5And he gathered the priests and the Lĕwites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Yehuḏah, and gather from all Yisra’ĕl silver to repair the House of your Elohim from year to year, and see that you hurry the matter.” But the Lĕwites did not hurry it.
6And the sovereign called Yehoyaḏa the chief, and said to him, “Why have you not required the Lĕwites to bring in from Yehuḏah and from Yerushalayim the levy of Mosheh the servant of יהוה and of the assembly of Yisra’ĕl, for the Tent of the Witness?”
7For the sons of Athalyahu, that wrong woman, had broken into the House of Elohim, and had also prepared all the set-apart vessels of the House of יהוה to the Ba‛als.
8So the sovereign commanded and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the House of יהוה,
9and made it known in Yehuḏah and in Yerushalayim to bring to יהוה the levy that Mosheh the servant of Elohim had imposed on Yisra’ĕl in the wilderness.
10And all the rulers and all the people rejoiced, and they brought in and put them into the chest to completion.
11And it came to be, at that time, when the chest was brought to the sovereign’s official by the hand of the Lĕwites, and when they saw that there was much silver, that the sovereign’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it and returned it to its place. So they did day by day, and gathered a large amount of silver.
12And the sovereign and Yehoyaḏa gave it to those who did the work of the service of the House of יהוה. And they hired stonemasons and carpenters to restore the House of יהוה, and also those who worked in iron and bronze to repair the House of יהוה.
13And the workmen laboured, and the work of restoration progressed in their hands, and they established the House of Elohim to its proper form and strengthened it.
14And when they had finished, they brought the rest of the silver before the sovereign and Yehoyaḏa, and they made utensils from it for the House of יהוה, utensils for serving and offering, ladles and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the House of יהוה continually all the days of Yehoyaḏa.
15And Yehoyaḏa was old and satisfied with days, and died, one hundred and thirty years old when he died.
16And they buried him in the City of Dawiḏ among the sovereigns, for he had done good in Yisra’ĕl, both toward Elohim and His house.
17And after the death of Yehoyaḏa the rulers of Yehuḏah came and bowed themselves to the sovereign. And the sovereign listened to them,
18and they forsook the House of יהוה Elohim of their fathers, and served the Ashĕrim and the idols. And wrath came upon Yehuḏah and Yerushalayim because of their trespass.
19And He sent prophets to them, to bring them back to יהוה. And they witnessed against them, but they did not listen.
20Then the Spirit of Elohim came upon Zeḵaryah son of Yehoyaḏa the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus said Elohim, ‘Why are you transgressing the commands of יהוה,a and do not prosper? Because you have forsaken יהוה, He has forsaken you.’ ”
21And they conspired against him, and at the command of the sovereign they stoned him with stones in the courtyard of the House of יהוה.
22Thus Yo’ash the sovereign did not remember the kindness which Yehoyaḏa his father had done to him, and slew his son. And as he died, he said, “יהוה does see, and repay!”
23And it came to be, at the turn of the year, that the army of Aram came up against him. And they came into Yehuḏah and Yerushalayim, and destroyed all the rulers of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the sovereign of Darmeseq.
24For the army of Aram came with few men, but יהוה gave a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken יהוה Elohim of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Yo’ash.
25And when they had withdrawn from him – for they left him very sick – his own servants conspired against him because of the blood of the sons of Yehoyaḏa the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died. And they buried him in the City of Dawiḏ, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the sovereigns.
26And these are the ones who conspired against him: Zaḇaḏ the son of Shim‛ath the Ammonitess, and Yehozaḇaḏ the son of Shimrith the Mo’aḇitess.
27As to his sons, and the many words about him, and the rebuilding of the House of Elohim, see, they are written in the commentary of the book of the sovereigns. And Amatsyahu his son reigned in his place.
